🍰🐾 Happy National Dessert Day! 🐾🍩

Working in vet med is a lot like eating dessert…

Some days are a piece of cake. 🍰
Some days we're in a bit of a jam. 🍓
Sometimes the schedule is completely bananas. 🍌
And by 4:00 PM, we're all wondering if chocolate counts as a coping mechanism. 😂

Our patients have their own opinion on dessert too:
🐶 “I would also like cake.”
🐱 “I knocked it off the counter. Therefore, it's mine.”

Just remember—the human treats are for the humans! Chocolate, xylitol, raisins, and certain other dessert ingredients can be dangerous for pets.

So today, treat yourself to something sweet. You deserve it! ❤️🍪

🎉🐾 PAW-TY TIME!! HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY, PIPER JUNE!

Our sweet little Piper June turned TWO this week, and we had the best time celebrating our tiny girl! 🥹💕 She may be little, but her personality is BIG! From playing with all her best friends to making sure every pup feels welcome, Piper keeps our daycare full of love, laughter, and a whole lot of sass! 🐶💖

And can we talk about her adorable little underbite? We just can’t get enough of her sweet face! 🦷🎀 We also loved the goodie bags she brought for all her furry friends! We absolutely LOVE watching this little girl grow up with us, and we’re so lucky to be part of her journey! 🥹💗

Piper’s birthday reminder: Watch your shoelaces… this tiny girl might be small, but she’s got BIG plans! 👟😂

Here’s to another year of puppy kisses, bestie playdates, and making the sweetest memories! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PIPER JUNE! 🥳🎂💕

🐾 BREED SPOTLIGHT: THE BASSET HOUND 🐾
Those long ears, short legs, and soulful eyes are pretty hard to resist! ❤️ Meet the Basset Hound—a breed with a nose that's almost as impressive as its personality.
👃 That nose knows!
Basset Hounds are scent hounds originally bred to track small game. Their long ears actually help sweep scents from the ground toward their nose as they track.
🐶 Low to the ground, big on personality
Despite those little legs, adult Bassets can weigh 40–65 pounds. They're generally known for being affectionate, easygoing, and social—but they can also have an independent streak when their nose tells them there's something more interesting to investigate!
👂 Those famous ears need attention
Their long, floppy ears can reduce airflow to the ear canal, making regular ear checks and cleaning particularly important.
⚖️ Keeping them lean matters
Extra weight can put additional stress on their backs and joints, so maintaining a healthy body condition is especially important for this low-slung breed.
❤️ Health concerns to know
Basset Hounds can be prone to certain conditions, including ear and skin problems, obesity, orthopedic issues, and gastric dilatation-volvulus (bloat/GDV).
🏠 Are they good family dogs?
They can be wonderful companions for families prepared for some drool, shedding, selective hearing...and a dog who may suddenly forget you exist when an interesting smell appears. 😂
Do we have any Basset Hound families out there? Show us those long ears and sweet faces in the comments! 🐾❤️

🎃🐾 HALLOWEEN PET COSTUME CONTEST! 🐾🎃

Calling all ghosts, goblins, superheroes, princesses, pumpkins…and whatever else your pets are willing to tolerate! 😂👻

Throughout October, if your pet visits us wearing a Halloween costume, we’ll snap their picture and enter them into our Halloween Pet Costume Contest!

📸 At the beginning of November, we’ll post all of our costumed cuties right here on Facebook and let YOU vote for your favorite!

🏆 The pet with the most votes will win a prize!
And because we don’t want all the fun happening in just one place, Pet Wellness Center, Marion Veterinary Clinic, Great Paws and Thompsonville Veterinary Clinic will each have their own winner!

So if your pet already has an appointment this month, don’t forget the costume! 🎃🐶🐱
We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. Let the cuteness—and the competition—begin! 🧡🖤🐾

🐸🪷PUP OF THE MONTH: LILLY🪷🐸

Lilly is officially our resident frog girlie! 🐸💚 When she’s not busy winning tug-of-war against her besties, you can find her splashing in the water, wrestling with her friends, and living her absolute best little life!

Thank you so much to Hill’s Pet Nutrition and Pet Odor for a little something for all of us to celebrate just how loved our sweet girl is! 💝

Congratulations Lilly, you deserve it! ⭐️🩷

“WAIT FOR ME… I GOT LITTLE LEGS!” 😂💨

Our little pups may have tiny legs, but they’ve got BIG personalities and even bigger zoomies! 🐶💕

That’s why we give our small pups their own playtime! Separating big and little dogs helps keep playtime safe, comfortable, and fun for everyone. Our little ones can run, wrestle, and zoom around with friends their own size without having to look out for a giant! 😂🦖

Because every pup deserves a place where they can play, make friends, and feel right at home. 🏡

Little paws, big love, and the happiest daycare days!
We hope you enjoy our little dog POV, puppy love to go all around 🐾

🎉🐾 Molly knows how to celebrate a birthday! 🧁💕

Molly’s family brought in some special birthday treats the other day so she could celebrate with all of her day camp friends! There was just one little problem… the birthday girl needed a nap first. 😂💤
So, while everyone patiently waited, Molly got in some much-needed beauty sleep. Later in the day, she was rested, recharged, and ready to PARTY! 🥳🐶
A huge thank you to Molly’s family for thinking of everyone and bringing in treats to share. We loved getting to celebrate your sweet girl! 💕🐾

Happy Birthday, Molly! We hope your day was filled with plenty of naps, treats, and fun with your friends! 🎂🎈

🐾 BREED SPOTLIGHT: GOLDEN RETRIEVER 💛

Is there a breed that seems to love everyone quite like a Golden Retriever? 😂 With their happy personalities, wagging tails, and unmistakable smiles, Goldens have earned their reputation as one of America’s favorite family dogs.

Originally developed in Scotland as hunting dogs, Golden Retrievers were bred to retrieve game from both land and water—which helps explain their love of carrying things around and their frequent obsession with water! 🎾💦

Goldens are known for being:

🐾 Friendly & affectionate — Most have never met a stranger.
🧠 Highly intelligent & trainable — Their eagerness to please makes them wonderful working dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs, and family companions.
🎾 Playful & active — Fetch, swimming, hiking, or simply carrying a random object around the house can make their day.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 People-oriented — Goldens generally thrive when they're part of the family and included in everyday activities.
🪮 Professional-level shedders — That gorgeous double coat comes with plenty of Golden glitter! 😂

And while their sweet personality gets most of the attention, Goldens can be prone to certain health concerns, including hip and elbow problems, heart disease, skin and ear issues, and some types of cancer. Routine veterinary care and maintaining a healthy weight are especially important for this breed.

💛 Golden Retriever owners, we want to hear from you! What is the most Golden Retriever thing your dog does? Drop a photo in the comments, too—we can never have too many Goldens on our feed! 🐶📸
