Our guests arrived at Glacier Park International Airport straight from New York, eager to kick off their stay at Lago Vida on Little Bitterroot Lake. So they rented a car and stopped for groceries before heading west on Hwy 2. But little did they know, Hwy 2 had been closed due to an accident, and it seemed like the whole town of Marion was backed up for miles. Determined to start their vacation, Danyelle and Lailey consulted the all-knowing Google Maps for a detour. I tried to warn them - trust me, Google doesn't always know best around these parts - but my message arrived fashionably late. Off they went, up Rogers Lake Road and onto Sickler Creek Road, which is more of a glorified goat path than an actual road. When I received their text saying, 'I don't think we're on a real road anymore,' I was tempted to grab my husband's side-by-side for a rescue mission. But then, another text came in: 'We're out, see you in 15 minutes.' They strolled in a mere half hour later than expected, looking rather pleased with themselves. Apparently, they took the scenic route - which included a creek crossing, a possible lake foray, and an impromptu jaunt through a farmer's field. All they wanted was a photo with their mud-covered rental car. I jokingly suggested we erect a statue in their honor, considering they beat my neighbor home.
By the way, he made it home 3 hours later. (He wisely waited until they opened Hwy 2.) I'd wager Lewis and Clark would've never attempted that route - these ladies are officially the bravest adventurers to grace our doorsteps.
