Welcome in summer with a crunchy snack for the kids at home to keep them happy and healthy.
-Molasses Oatmeal Cookies-
Cream together: 1 egg, 1/2 cup of shortening & 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 a cup of molasses. Add 2 cups of flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp of Vanilla, 2 cups of oat and 1/2 cups of chopped nuts and chocolate chips. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes and enjoy!

It's fall at Olde Squat Inn! Wood on the porch, falling leaves and sweet potato biscuits with homemade applebutter for breakfast! Here's Katy's recipe for you to try or come see us for a stay and we'll treat you! RECIPE... In a large bowl whisk together 1 3/4 c. flour, 2 T. brown sugar, 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. soda. With pastry blender cut in 6 T. butter till mixture resembles coarse meal. Add 3/4 c. mashed cooked sweet potato and 1/3 cup buttermilk (or yogurt). Stir into a ball but don't over mix. Pat out o a floured surface into a round, 1 inch thick. Cut into rounds or triangle scones. Bake close together in pan, 20 minutes or till golden brown, 400 degree oven. Makes 8 to 10 biscuits.
