Winter Storm Update (February 17, 2026)

All areas of Yosemite National Park are receiving precipitation, with stormy weather forecast throughout the weekend. Read below for updates:

❄️ Heaviest precipitation is forecast for Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning. An estimated two to four feet of snow could drop in the Yosemite Valley area with the snow level potentially dropping below 2,000 feet. Expect high winds ranging from 20 to 40 mph. Look out for fallen trees, debris, and rockfalls on roads.

❄️ Horsetail Fall is very unlikely to be illuminated at sunset due to the cloudy conditions for the next several days and possibly through the weekend. Due to weather, the pedestrian route on the road to the viewing area has been taken down. Parking is extremely limited.

❄️ Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Highway 120 from the west to/from Yosemite Valley) is temporarily closed. We will evaluate the road Wednesday morning. Badger Pass Road is also temporarily closed. Yosemite is reachable via Highways 41 and 140 (tire chains required).

❄️ If you are visiting Yosemite, carry tire chains and be prepared for delays and road closures. Call 209/372-0200 (then 1, 1) to check for updates on road closures and chain requirements. Except icy road conditions even at low elevations.

❄️ All campgrounds and Curry Village are closed at least through Thursday night due to high winds and snow.
