Special thanks to Angella Moorehouse for coming out to the Oak Ridge Land and Water Reserve to document insects! Angella has been studying insects a long time now and she and her husband, Dan drove 4 hours to see what they could find. As the weeks go by, she will share as many photos as she can. It’s pretty exciting. Thanks Angella and Dan!

For Immediate release:
Lincoln Trail State Park will hold a limited Raccoon Hunt beginning at sunset November 10th, 2026, to sunrise December 20th, 2026. There will be some closures due to the Fi***rm Deer Hunting seasons. Permits will be allocated at a drawing held at 6:00pm October 21th, at the park workshop.
Registration for the permit drawing will be held immediately prior to the drawing. Hunters MUST HAVE a valid hunting license and Habitat Stamp to participate in the permit drawing.
Please call the office for details. Hunters must have a valid hunting license and Habitat Stamp to obtain a permit.
The park is located three miles south of Marshall, Illinois and one mile west of State Route 1.

A huge thank you to Dr. Joy O’Keefe for a very informative and inspiring presentation on local bats. We even got to hear some bats as well! 20 people attended too.

Evening Bat Walk, September 8, 2026 – 6:30-8 pm

Join Joy O’Keefe, Wildlife Extension Specialist at the University of Illinois, for an evening bat walk. You’ll learn about bats of eastern Illinois, their habitat associations, and how they use echolocation to find prey and navigate their environment! After dark, we’ll use acoustic monitoring devices to listen for bats along forest edges in the park. Bring a flashlight if you have one and sturdy walking shoes.

Good afternoon everyone. We have this weekend a rather large amount of campers coming for the Holiday. We also have some unusually higher temperatures as well. We are asking campers to try to please use electricity as sparingly as possible. We are here and we have a company that will be on hand to fix any problems that may occur, but we ask you to try to limit some electrical use if possible.

Hello everyone. The IDNR Heavy Equipment Crew will be here this week to help take care of some dangerous snags in the park that was left after the devastating storm that hit us three weeks ago. They will be concentrating on snags above the roads and the camping areas. Please be patient and cautious as we make more progress.
