The 300 Acres of the Nottawa Lake Preserve rests among the low, rolling green hills of South Central Michigan. A man-made water inlet leads into a heavy forest, where nature trails often reveal raccoons, opossum, geese, deer and red foxes. Hundreds of restored turn-of-the-century homes and buildings grace the streets of Marshall, including the Honolulu House, Governor’s Mansion and Capital Hill School. Battle Creek, 20 miles from the preserve, was named for a skirmish that took place on the banks of the creek in 1825 between an Indian and a land surveyor. The town is home to the Kellogg and Post Cereal Plants as well as many other food-packing industries. Preserve elevation is 960 feet. Winter highs are 30 degrees, lows in the teens. Summer highs are 80, lows 60.
