This morning just before 7, Dallas Bona from Lyndonville brought a load of top soil. 14+ yards. Fair price, right on time, and he managed dumping in two spots while dealing with the edge of the driveway. I highly recommend.
It was interesting to catch up on the Bona family. I grew up with them in the 50s - early 70s when they moved to Lyndonville from Pleasant St. in St. Johhnsbury. I grew up in a small trailer three lots down from their home. When they moved, my parents sold the 8' wide trailer and our lot and moved into their house and rented until they built their home in North Danville in 1972/73. My mother and Barbara Bona were great friends. The Bonas own and run the three White Markets in St. J and Lyndonville. Dallas is Bruce's son. This morning was the first time that I had met him. Yet another good connection from FB Market Place.
My goal is to have all of this placed, raked, sloped, seeded and covered with light straw before dark. I better get to it. Some rain is coming the next few days. Good time to grow grass. If you have been to Fruitlands for U Pick and parked on the lawn, you know that it can be a bit difficult backing out especially with a low vehicle. Progress! It just took me 50 years. (To be fair to the farmer :), this problem has grown with years of crushed slate renewal on the steep driveway after all of the wash outs around us during flood events. The driveway just kept getting higher than the lawn grade.)
