June water levels can vary a lot depending on snowmelt and recent rain, especially on rivers. Higher and faster water than you expect is one of the most common surprises for paddlers this time of year.

Three things to check before every summer paddle:
✅ Current water levels and flow rate for your specific put-in (most state agencies post this)
✅ Weather not just at your location but upstream, where conditions affect water hours later
✅ Your float plan shared with someone onshore so they know where you are

Did you know? June is one of the best months of the year for birdwatching in North America. 🔭

Migration has wrapped up and nesting season is in full swing, which means birds are more active, more vocal, and more visible than almost any other time of year. Species that are hard to spot in fall and winter are singing from the treetops right now trying to be noticed.
