Why Join Kappa Alpha Order? Ka traces its beginning to 1865, when four men at Washington College, in Lexington, Va. decided to bind their friendship by a "mutal pledge of fath and loyalty." Our founders sought to create an organization rooted in the highest ideals of the time. Those same traits of honor,

chivalry, and gentility have remained timeless throughout the ages and are the core of Kappa Alpha. Emulating chivalric ideals and genteel ethics, KA translates these timeless philosophies into the mainstream of American Colleges and Universities. The gentlemanly traits are the hallmark for men who have chosen our unique lifestyle. The philosophy of the Order is that the acquisition of knowledge and the development of character are the great goals of life. Through Fellowship and brotherhood, KA seeks to teach young men to be leaders; to be brave, self-reliant, and to continually strive to better themselves.

Today is Captain’s Challenge 2026, and the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order Delta Upsilon are proud to support the University of Tennessee at Martin through the Patmore Wolfe Brasher Scholarship. Captain’s Challenge is the one day each year when individual gifts up to $300 are matched dollar for dollar, making every donation go even further in supporting students and the future of our chapter. The Delta Upsilon Chapter at the University of Tennessee at Martin has become a "Foundation Chapter," donating $18.65 per man to the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation (KAOEF). Foundation Chapters recognize the valuable support that the KAOEF provides to their chapter leaders and members.
