UPDATE: Because of the long wait list to attend the Age to Age Retreat this past week, Fr. Greg Tschakert has graciously agreed to allow the Abbey to offer it again! Same retreat - different date - BE SURE TO CALL TO SECURE YOUR SPOT!! Tuesday, October 20th. Call Beth or Renee in events: 605-398-9200 Free will offering graciously accepted.

What an incredible couple of days at the Abbey! 🙏
On Monday evening, Fr. David Axtmann shared the remarkable story of Baby Brian Galligher, a story of faith and hope as the Church works toward recognizing a possible miracle. Nearly 100 people gathered to hear his story. ❤️
The very next morning, Fr. Greg Tschakert led a day-long retreat on aging, attended by more than 80 people! The response was so strong that more than 30 people were placed on a waiting list—and Fr. Greg has graciously agreed to offer the retreat again real soon!
It’s wonderful to see so many people coming to the Abbey to learn, reflect, pray and rediscover peace. 🕊️
Be sure to check out www.abbeyofthehills.org to see what’s coming up at The Abbey! 🌿
We hope to see you at the Abbey soon! 💙

🚗 A New Set of Wheels. A Bigger Mission. 🚗

The Abbey is grateful to our generous donors who made a new vehicle for the Abbey of the Hills possible—and this isn’t really about a car. It’s about where that car can take us!

With this new vehicle, we have another way to get out into your communities, churches, and civic organizations to share the story of the Abbey and the mission of fostering the rediscovery of peace.

A special thank-you to Jeff and Billion Motors in Sioux Falls for helping make this possible! 🔑

Know of a church, civic group, service club, or organization that would like to learn more about the Abbey? Margaret in our Development Office would love to come visit and share our story. 📞 605-398-9200.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep the Abbey moving forward! ❤️

This. ❤️ This is one of the reasons we do what we do.

A few weeks ago, young men from around the diocese gathered at the Abbey of the Hills for the JPII Vocations Camp. They came together for prayer, Mass, inspiring talks, laughter, friendship, and fraternity.

Moments like these remind us why the Abbey exists — to create a place where young people can step away from the noise of the world, encounter Christ, and listen for God’s call in their lives.

Thank you to everyone who prays for the Abbey, volunteers their time and talents, and financially supports our mission. You are an important part of making moments like this possible. Your generosity helps us continue creating a place where hearts can be opened to God’s call.

Please join us in praying for these young men, that they will continue to keep their hearts open to wherever God may be calling them. 🙏❤️

This is the mission. This is why the Abbey matters.

A Heartfelt Thank You to an Anonymous Donor!

Today we want to extend a very special thank you to a generous person who recently purchased several items from The Abbey's Amazon Wish List.

There was no note included to let us know who you are, but please know that your kindness has not gone unnoticed. We wanted to be sure to publicly express our gratitude and let you know how much your support means to us.

The items you purchased were things we truly needed, including supplies that will help make our kitchen run more efficiently and alarm clocks for our guest rooms. These may seem like small things, but they make a big difference in the comfort, hospitality, and daily operations of The Abbey.

As a nonprofit organization, we often have to prioritize large and urgent projects such as roof repairs, air conditioning upgrades, and improvements to our front steps and accessibility ramp. Because of those necessary expenses, many of the smaller items that help improve our kitchen, guest rooms, and everyday operations often have to wait.

That's why gifts like yours are such a blessing. They fill important gaps, ease financial burdens, and help us continue providing a welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our doors.

To our anonymous donor: thank you for your thoughtfulness, generosity, and support of The Abbey. Your gift may have arrived quietly, but the impact is significant. We are incredibly grateful and want you to know that you are appreciated, even if we don't know your name.

❤️ From all of us at The Abbey, thank you for helping make this place a little better for everyone. We are truly blessed by your kindness. ❤️

Only 3 Days Until Our Day of Recollection!

Join us on August 11, 2026, for a special Day of Recollection presented by Dr. Michael Moran, who will explore one of the most studied and fascinating artifacts in the world—the Shroud of Turin.

Is the Shroud the image of an unknown man, an artist's depiction of Jesus, or the actual image of Christ? Through an examination of its Biblical connections, historical record, and scientific research, participants will have the opportunity to consider the evidence and draw their own conclusions.

To enrich this experience, life-size replicas of the Shroud of Turin and crucifixion instruments will be available, offering a powerful opportunity for deeper understanding and reflection on Christ's Passion.

Registration is required for meal planning purposes.

✝️ Don't miss this memorable day of faith, learning, and reflection. We look forward to welcoming you in just 3 days!

As I was heading to bed tonight at the Abbey, I heard the most beautiful sound drifting from the church.

This week we’re blessed to be hosting a retreat for single moms, and after a busy day, hearing a voice lifted in prayer and song was such a gift. It was one of those simple, grace-filled moments that reminds you God is quietly at work—bringing peace, hope, and strength to those who seek Him.

Please keep these wonderful moms and their children in your prayers as they continue their retreat. May they leave the Abbey renewed, encouraged, and deeply aware of God’s love for them. ❤️

It’s the kind of moment that captures the Abbey’s mission of fostering the rediscovery of peace.
