Great timing! We were scheduled to head over the mountains to visit Winthrop for the 49er weekend. Originally we planned to take Highway 2 through Leavenworth, but a few days ago we saw a post from WSDOT announcing the opening of Highway 20! Thank you WSDOT crews for getting this done. We are now looking forward to a great summer and much shorter drives from Stanwood to Mazama! [ 35 more words ]

Highway 20 is open and the drive from Stanwood to Mazama got reduced by 2 hours!

There is still time to visit the Methow Valley for some fun acitivities on the cross country ski trails. After a great long weekend it is time for us to head back home in the morning. The weather over the past days has been beautiful, we had some new snow, lots of sunshine and only some overcast skies. The skiing conditions are still great in the morning, but with the sun heating up the snow, the trails are much slower in the afternoon, but trading off the great views for the slower trails was fine with us. After having gotten quite a few more inches of snow over the past few days the sun has made an appearance today. We had a great day on the trail system. We started at the base camp on Lost River Road, from there we skied over to the Freestone Inn and after a short break in Jack's Hut we continued down to Mazama. What a perfect day. Our favorite cross country ski trail for the weekend. Upper River Run is perfect for beginners and advanced skiers. If you hit the trail in the morning you can schedule a pit stop for lunch at Jack‘s Hut!
