Members of the McComb Lions Club and North Pike High School Agriculture and Natural Resources II students, in collaboration with the Scenic Rivers Development Alliance, joined forces for Bogue Chitto Water Park Volunteer Day as part of a Volunteer Mississippi project!
It was a perfect day for both learning and giving back! Volunteers started the morning with an engaging tree identification session led by Jeff Bein, where they learned how to recognize native trees, identify potential hazards, and appreciate the natural beauty that makes our park so special.
After the educational session, volunteers rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on service project, rebuilding the fence near one of our gazebo areas. This project gave students a chance to apply classroom skills in a real-world setting while building teamwork, leadership, and environmental awareness.
We also appreciate the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for sharing valuable information on park safety and responsible outdoor practices—helping our community better understand how to care for Mississippi’s natural spaces.

Today was a beautiful and meaningful day as a walking trail at Bogue Chitto Water Park was officially dedicated in memory of Casey Clemons. The dedication was made possible through the efforts of Benton Gibson, former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 124, in partnership with the Pike County Board of Supervisors and Scenic Rivers Development and Alliance.

Casey, a proud graduate of McComb High School and Southwest Mississippi Community College, passed away in 2004. He had a deep love for the Boy Scouts and lived a life rooted in the values of service, leadership, and community. He was a Boy Scout at heart—always committed, always present, and always willing to help others.

This newly paved trail is part of the exciting renovations happening at Bogue Chitto Water Park, and it now stands as a tribute to a life well-lived and a spirit that continues to inspire. Casey’s parents, family, and friends were in attendance for the dedication ceremony—each step along the trail serving as a reminder of the legacy he left behind.

It was a day full of love, reflection, and honor for someone who truly lived the Scout motto every day.
