explore all that Morgan County, Ohio has to offer! The Muskingum River is known for monster shovelhead catfish. The river is fished for small mouth, spotted and largemouth bass. There are saugeye and sauger caught in the tail waters of the locks and dams as well as trophy striped bass. Most of the best fishing is below Rokeby Locks, McConnelsville, Stockport and Luke Chute dams, in the swift running tail waters. Most tail water shore lines are accessible for public access fishing and free access to anglers. Because of the natural sandy river bottom soil, the numerous tributaries have created large sand bars that are unique to the Muskingum River in Morgan County. These sand bars create create current which hold many species of sport fish. Public access boat ramps are free use and located at the Morgan County fairgrounds ramp approximately 1/2 mile from the cottage.
