The William McFarland Founder’s Suite, #204

Welcome to the William McFarland Founder’s Suite, a space thoughtfully named in honor of the man who gave our community its name. This beautifully appointed room pays tribute to William McFarland, the founder of McFarland.

Born in 1840, in what would later become the Village of McFarland, William McFarland was a prominent early settler, businessman, and civic leader. His family was among the first to establish permanent roots in the area, and he played a significant role in shaping the growth and development of the community. When the village was officially organized, it was named in his honor - a lasting testament to his impact and dedication.

The Founder’s Suite reflects that legacy of vision and community. Designed with comfort and character in mind, this inviting space blends modern amenities with a subtle nod to local history. As you relax here, you’re staying in a room that celebrates the very beginnings of McFarland and the pioneering spirit that built it.

We are proud to honor William McFarland’s legacy and to share a piece of our town’s story with every guest who stays in Room 204.

The Larson Room, #203

Named in honor of John Obed Larson, this room celebrates one of McFarland’s most influential early entrepreneurs and community figures. A successful businessman and visionary, Larson helped shape the lakeside culture that made McFarland a beloved destination. After purchasing lakefront land in the early 1900s, he developed Larson’s Beach Resort, building cottages, piers, and summer homes that brought visitors to the area and strengthened the local economy.

This room has views of the historic Larson House, the beautiful Queen Anne-style Victorian home purchased by John O. Larson in 1911. The Larson family lived there for nearly 80 years, making it a landmark deeply woven into McFarland’s history and identity. Today, the home is preserved by the McFarland Historical Society and stands as a symbol of community pride and preservation.
With views toward the original Larson House, The Larson Room invites guests to step into a story rooted in entrepreneurship, local heritage, and the spirit of McFarland’s past, while enjoying a comfortable and memorable stay in the present.

The Elvehjem Suite - Room #202

Named in honor of McFarland native Conrad Arnold Elvehjem, this suite celebrates a remarkable local figure whose work made a global impact. Born in McFarland in 1901, Elvehjem became an internationally recognized biochemist and nutrition pioneer, best known for discovering niacin (vitamin B3), a breakthrough that helped cure pellagra and improved the health of millions worldwide.

As a lifelong Wisconsinite, Elvehjem earned his degrees from the University of Wisconsin Madison, where he later served as a professor, dean, and eventually the university’s 13th president. His dedication to education, research, and community left a lasting legacy across the region, including schools, neighborhoods, and institutions that still carry his name today.

The Elvehjem Suite blends comfort and history, offering guests a meaningful connection to McFarland’s past while enjoying a relaxing and memorable stay.

The Waubesa Suite - Room #201

The Waubesa Suite is our only room featuring two queen size beds along with a cozy dining table, perfect for relaxing, sharing a meal, or planning your next adventure around McFarland.

Named after the stunning Lake Waubesa just a mile down the road, this suite reflects the beauty and history of one of Dane County’s treasured lakes. Formed by glaciers thousands of years ago, Lake Waubesa is part of the Yahara Chain of Lakes and spans more than 2,000 acres, offering miles of shoreline, abundant wildlife, and endless opportunities for boating, fishing, and peaceful lakeside moments. The name “Waubesa,” meaning “white bird” or “swan,” honors the Ho-Chunk heritage that is deeply connected to this area... and if you’re lucky, you may still spot swans gliding across its waters today.

Whether you’re here to explore the lake, unwind after a day of adventure, or simply enjoy a comfortable and spacious retreat, The Waubesa Suite offers a relaxing stay inspired by the natural beauty that makes McFarland so special.
