On May 22, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a hailstorm impacted the soybean field, resulting in an estimated 40–50% loss of leaf area. Although noticeable damage occurred, soybeans have the ability to recover from substantial defoliation, and plants at this stage can typically withstand up to 70% leaf loss with limited long-term impact on yield potential under favorable growing conditions.

CRP Members and Guests,

The trails on Side 5 are now open.

In the past couple of weeks, several roads and trails have been damaged by mud riding in areas that are not designated for it.

Please remember that the only area at CRP where mud riding is allowed is the ATV trails on Side 3 that are located south of Highway 84. All other roads and trails are for pleasure riding only.

We have spent a lot of time and money this year repairing the roads and trails north of Highway 84. Please do not ride in the mud in these areas or damage the roads, trails, or nearby surroundings.

Parents, please talk to your children about this.

Important: If you or your guests are caught damaging roads or trails outside the designated mud trail areas, your CRP membership will be suspended.

Thank you for helping us keep CRP in good condition!

The soybeans were planted on April 10, 11, and 12. This year the soybeans that were planted are Pioneer 45Z75E. This is a Group 4 bean, which should mature in late August / early September. We planted 155,000 seeds per acre, which is approximately 4 or 5 beans per foot. The beans are supposed to grow chest high and get very bushy. This years beans will be very similar to the beans planted last year. At the present time, the beans have passed the cotyledon state and have entered the trifoliate stage. The green cotyledons open and supply the developing leaves with stored energy, while capturing a small amount of light energy. Unifoliolate leaves develop first. Two of these leaves appear directly opposite from one another above the cotyledons. All subsequent leaves are trifoliates with 3 leaflets. This is a very critical stage where the soybeans are very susceptible to damage from deer. In 2 weeks we will give another update regarding the crop spraying and what herbicides we will be applying to the beans.
