Just a reminder that we are in a burn ban. We love a good campfire as much as anyone, but the fire danger is too high. Please be respectful and honor the burn ban. Our fire departments thank you!

The Comanche County Board of Commissioners declared a 14-day burn ban for the county Monday.

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center will be temporarily closed until Sept 8. More info below.

🌿 Important Update from Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge! 🌿

We're excited to announce that we'll be upgrading our Visitor Center with a brand-new HVAC system! 🔧✨

Please note: The Visitor Center will be temporarily CLOSED from July 28, 2025, until we reopen on September 8, 2025. During this time, we want to ensure you still have a great experience, so our Visitor Center Operations and the Friends of the Wichitas Nature Store will be moving to the Main Foyer of the New Headquarters building located 1/4 mile east of the Visitor Center beginning on Saturday, August 2nd.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to enhance your visit to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge! We can’t wait to welcome you back with a refreshed and improved space!

We will have these available printed out at Town Hall soon for visiting guests to pick up. We do ask though if you’re done with your map to recycle it to a new guest or toss it into a recycling bin of your choice.
