Over 1.2 million American service members have died as a result of military service since the founding of the United States in 1776. Many chose to fight but many were also forced to. Many fought for causes they believed in while many questioned the morality of war. Today, we remember them all for their sacrifice.

Donald Trump has submitted plans to paint the historic Eisenhower Executive Office Building White. Completed in 1888, the structure was commissioned by President Grant and designed by Alfred B. Mullett. The federal government never paid Mullett for his work, and he committed su***de in 1890 penniless and in ill health.

It’s common knowledge that painting stone is generally considered bad for a building. It traps moisture inside the porous material, causing the paint to peel and the stone or mortar to crumble (spall) over time. This process is largely irreversible, high-maintenance, and can lead to severe, long-term structural damage. In addition, the white paint will easily be stained by everyday pollutants and exhaust. Plainly put, painting this building is short sided and highly inconsiderate to future American taxpayers. Unfortunately, preservationists continue to be dismissed.

While many critics in the 19th century argued that the building clashed with the plethora of neoclassical architecture in DC, it has been celebrated by many in recent history as a striking example of French Second Empire. The building went through extensive modernizations while preserving its historic character between 2008-2014, and the project earned the GSA Honor Award.

This post isn’t about political parties, it’s about preservation. Our historic landmarks are not hotels or casinos. When preservation is being attacked from the very top, all Americans should be concerned.

We were honored to be the second home of Mercersburg’s “First Pup”, Brody. Sweet Brody passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Friday. He remained dignified and gentle until the very end.

It’s no secret that before anything, I’m a cat person. Brody wasn’t like any dog, though. He was a gentle soul who seemed to have lived past lives. Sometimes, when I looked into his eyes, I wondered if there was a person in there. He was the exception to our no pet rule and he was a perfect gentleman. Our cats knew that Brody got the couch when he visited.

I love this photo of Brody in front of Lane House, serving his community as he often did with his papa, Mayor Pedersen. This is how I will remember him.

Ready in peace, Brody. ❤️

Between Lane House and Brownstone Chiropractic, we’ve filled nearly 900 Easter eggs for upcoming hunts in our community. I never want to see another egg in my life. 😂

Happy early Easter, folks!

To the 300 million people around the world celebrating Persian New Year, Happy Nowruz! This 3,000 year old celebration is observed primarily across Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Western Asia, and the Black Sea Basin. It is the oldest continuously observed holiday in the world. The Haft-Sin table features a variety of ancient symbols depicting spring, rebirth, love, health, prosperity, and wisdom.

On this Nowruz, my heart aches for the people of Iran amidst an unnecessary war and unprovoked aggression. May this New Year bring wisdom, understanding, and humanity to all those who claim to stand for peace, righteousness, and freedom.
