Grab your sunscreen and retro sunglasses, your denim and day-glow jackets, and your riding buddies! Next year marks our 60-year anniversary and the arrival of the new Wild West Express lift. While our beloved West End is now closed for the season, it still deserves a proper send-off after over five decades of service.

Join us Sunday, March 15, on the Sunset Deck, for free food, drinks, and live music from roughly 11am-3pm. We have pulled a few of the West End Chairs to bring over so you get one more picture with the 2 Chair. Come hang out, swap stories, and enjoy the last moments before we close a chapter of Colorado ski history!

We’ve rolled back ticket pricing and are bringing back the 3 Hour Flex tickets for $64. We hope to see you all there!

Opening Day is tomorrow, and we’re excited to welcome you back to the mountain! The Flyer will spin 9am-4pm, 7 days a week, and Early Season Adult Tickets are $84 online and on-mountain. Bill’s Run to Lower Peacemaker will be open with an early-season park build at Looky Looky. No beginner lifts or terrain open just yet, but we’ll keep you posted. Observe all closures while we work to get additional terrain open.

During operating hours, all skinners/hikers must visit the Ticket Office to purchase an uphill ticket or show a season pass for an arm band. Uphill access is limited to West End until further notice—steer well clear of snowmaking operations and equipment, active day and night. See you tomorrow!

Mother Nature is keeping us on our toes during early season. While our snowmaking team has made solid progress on the upper mountain, warmer temperatures and limited natural snowfall have slowed things down at the base. We're working across departments to get the mountain open the moment conditions allow—check out our latest Instagram video to see our staff and snowmaking in action.

Temperatures are looking promising next week, so we'll keep pushing toward opening as quickly and safely as possible. As soon as the date is set, our official Opening Day will be announced here, on powderhorn.com, and in our email newsletter. Until then, thanks for doing your snow dance!

The face behind the name: Bob Beverly was one of Powderhorn’s founders and a Colorado Ski Hall of Famer, dedicated to bringing snow sports to the Western Slope. Every year we honor his legacy with our Bob Beverly Free Learn-To program for folks who have never skied or snowboarded before.

Visit powderhorn.com/bob to reserve now—complete three sessions to be eligible for the deeply discounted Rookie Season Pass. For last year’s Rookies, the Sophomore Season Pass will be available to purchase in-person at the Ticket Office this season.

Color Weekend 2025 is almost here and fall colors are peaking! We’re open Saturday and Sunday, Sept 27-28, for the annual celebration of fall’s arrival on the Grand Mesa. Take a scenic chair ride, explore West Bench or the Grand Overlook on foot, or savor the final Bike Park laps of the season.

We’ll have live music, fresh food, and cold drinks at the base area from 11am—5pm. There’s no cost to attend this event—scenic lift rides are optional, and available for $19/person at powderhorn.com/events. Kids 5 & under ride free with the purchase of an adult ticket, but must be able to load and unload the lift with minimal assistance. Riding in laps or child carriers is not allowed.

Be prepared while on the mountain: closed-toe shoes, dressing in layers, and water bottles are recommended. For everyone’s safety, walking on biking trails is never allowed. Dogs on a leash are welcome at the base and on our Stagecoach hiking trail, but are not allowed on the lift, Sunset Deck, or inside the Base Lodge.

See you on the mountain this weekend to celebrate fall, and get stoked for winter!

We’ve got big news: pending U.S. Forest Service approval, the West End Chairlift—originally installed in 1972—will be replaced with a high-speed detachable quad lift in Summer 2026, ahead of our 60th anniversary season Winter 26-27.

The future Wild West Express will follow the same alignment as the original West End, but with a slightly shortened line length and less than half the ride time. Formerly the Elk Camp chair at Snowmass, the lift is being refurbished by Leitner-Poma of America right here in Grand Junction. Construction will begin next summer, and we’ll post regular updates for you to follow along.

This is just one of many improvements aimed at elevating your mountain experience. Beginning this winter, our rental shop will relocate to the southwest side of the base lodge, near the lesson meeting area. The Quickdraw Café will open in its place, offering more breakfast and lunch capacity with great views of the Book Cliffs. We’re also adding a new snow groomer to our fleet and expanding the parking lots!

These projects are meant to deepen the value we offer to our outdoor community. We’re dedicated to making every visit to Powderhorn more enjoyable, and we’re proud to work with our partners at the US Forest Service to ensure long-term sustainable and responsible development.

Thank you for being a part of the Powderhorn family.
