Today is the Day.
The Milford Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding its annual draw today, August 29th, for 40 special deer hunting locations. Registration opens at 8:00 AM, with the drawing taking place at 9:30 AM on the front lawn of the Corps Office on North K-57 Highway, located just south of Milford Dam.
Hunters must be present at the draw and bring a valid photo ID along with a current Kansas deer tag to register. Special hunting access zones include the Milford Fish Hatchery, the Former K-State Lease, East Rolling Hills Park, and other designated areas, with limited permits ranging from 1 to 10 per location. Please note that crossbows are not allowed, except for disabled hunters and mentored youth at select locations.
Hunting opportunities begin September 14th, with many extending through December 1st. For more information, contact the Milford Lake Corps office directly at 785-238-5714, extension 3754.

Double the Anglers, Double the Bass!
Nothing beats a morning on Milford Lake, but sharing the boat with a great friend makes the bent rods and tight lines even better!
We had an absolute blast out on the water targeting smallies, and Milford did not disappoint. We managed to land some hard-fighting Smallmouth Bass—along with a beautiful Spotted Bass to round out the catch!
As always, we practiced CPR: Catch, Photo, and Release to make sure these hard-hitting fish are right back in the lake, growing bigger for the next angler to enjoy. Check out the photos from yesterday's trip!
There’s no better time to get out on the water. Call up a buddy, hitch up the boat, and get out to Milford Lake for some killer bass action!

The "Super Generation" Monarch Migration is Underway!
As late August rolls in, one of nature’s most incredible journeys begins. The final generation of Monarch butterflies—often called the "Super Monarchs"—are emerging. Unlike the short-lived generations of summer, these remarkable insects are built to live up to eight months and travel thousands of miles all the way to central Mexico.
Geary County and Milford Lake sit right in the heart of the Central Flyway. This major migratory highway makes our region an absolute haven for watching nature on the move. Due to our location, we also get waterfowl and birds from the Mississippi Flyway. Beyond the fluttering orange and black roosts of monarchs fueling up on native nectars, our position along the flyway provides an ideal viewing location for countless migratory waterfowl and shorebirds filling the lake and wetland areas. Here is the latest water breakdown for Milford Lake heading into the weekend:
Current Pool Elevation: 1,146.34 ft (Normal Conservation Pool: 1,144.44 ft)
Inflow: 300 cfs
Outflow: 100 cfs
Water levels are sitting just under 2 feet above normal pool with steady flow, making for great conditions out on the main body and around the coves.
Pack your gear, keep an eye out for birds working the surface, and enjoy your time on the water!
