This year, the New England Outdoor Center and Twin Pine Camps, based just outside Millinocket, Maine on the shore of Millinocket Lake announced the four-season outdoor resort has cleared more land this fall to open 10 kilometers of cross country skiing trails as well as snowshoeing routes throughout the property. The 10 kilometers of trails were designed by preeminent designer and Olympian John Mo

rton. The trails, featuring stunning views of Mount Katahdin will be cleared and maintained by the New England Outdoor Center and used for both skating and classic skiing. The New England Outdoor Center is located just miles from the south entrance of Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin and provides plenty of terrain for cross country skiing. Hiking trails quickly become blanketed with snow and provide for a great trek through the woods or out in the open wilderness. Skiers can also enjoy their stay with friends and family in one of our convenient lodging options. Our cozy cabins or new Coveside Guest Houses offer modern amenities in a rustic setting. We also have our River Drivers Restaurant on site to serve hungry skiers!

Who is ready to go skiing?!
This past week the Katahdin Region experienced a warm up with some rain, followed by a strong cool down. We had a really solid base to head into this storm with, so we are thankful that our trail system held on strong! This morning our grooming operator went out and groomed the following trails:
-Twin Pines Loop from #1 to #6
-Saddle Loop Trail - Track is set
-Black Cat Peak from #3 to #2 for a "quick out" option when returning from the Twin Pines Loop

Trail conditions are very favorable given the circumstances, and have resulted to a loose granular surface! The upcoming forecast predicts 3" - 8"+ of fresh snowfall next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

Gentle Reminder!
To all of our visitors, and guests- we love having you utilize our trail system, and we are so thankful for you all making the trip up to us! A few things that need to be addressed are as follows:

-Walking on the trails
*Our Hammond Ridge Trail system is multi-use! However, if you're planning to walk, please just rent, or bring your snowshoes. It's soft snow out there (especially today) and we don't get the opportunity to groom out the deep foot prints daily. So please, utilize snowshoes or skis! It makes skiing really difficult - especially skate skiing - when there are non-ski marks on the trails.

-Snowshoeing on the trails
*Our new trail map has a designated snowshoe trail that we marked just for you! So please do not snowshoe on the ski trails, and utilize the lake, or the designated trail! Thank you.

-Fat Tire Biking on the trails
*Along with our new trail map, we have listed suggested routes for you to fat tire bike on! That includes our snowshoe trail, the lake, and the roads! Please do not bike on the ski trails! Thank you.

Thank you all, and we continue to look forward to this amazing winter season we're having!
