FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Millinocket, ME - The 2021 Millinocket Marathon & Half will run as planned on Saturday, December 4th after last year’s cancellation.

Event organizers have been collecting CDC data and will be following safe event management practices as well as working with public safety professionals and will require various safety protocols as follows.

All runners will be required to show proof of vaccination in order to participate this year.

Registered runners must show up in person to pick up their race materials with proper credentials.

Masking in crowded areas around the start and finish areas will be required.

It will be strongly recommended that anyone traveling with runners also be vaccinated and follow aforementioned masking guidelines.

Indoor events directly related to the event including race registration and the craft fair will require masking.
Additionally foot traffic flow controls will be added to help mitigate crowding.

Masks are further required in all municipal buildings and properties.

Runners will be further asked to use personal judgement and good practices including masking where appropriate in the business community thru out Millinocket and the Katahdin region.

The race will feature a open start format meaning runners can start at any time during a roughly 10-15 minute window. This will help to prevent crowding in the start area.

The Millinocket Marathon was created in 2015 to provide an economic and emotional boost to the Katahdin region after the collapse of the region’s paper industry. “I applaud the decision to move forward with this year’s event”, said Gary Allen the race founder and director.
“I feel like a we can hold both a safe and needed event for Millinocket.”
