North Mills River will reopen July 6th. All affected reservations have been notified via recreation.gov. Thank you for your patience during this time!

Due to recent bear activity, North Mills River is closed until further notice. All affected reservations have been emailed and refunds have been issued.

Today's the day!! We are officially open and check in times begin at 2pm! We can't wait to see you!

UPDATE: We will be reopening June 1st! All current reservations will be honored! Please note there will be some changes to the walk-up sites and check-in process, and we appreciate your patience. We will not be processing any walk-ups on site. You must make reservations on the recreation.gov website (or call 877-444-6777) rather than at the campground entrance. Due to the high demand of campsites, we have made ALL campsites reservable. Same day reservations are now possible but are subject to availability. Also, firewood and ice will not be offered for sale. We appreciate your patience and cooperation with these new changes. We can't wait to see you all!

It sure is quiet here at North Mills River Recreation Area & Campground without all of you! We miss you and wanted to give you an update! The Forest Service has issued an order that states we are to remain closed until August 13th, 2020. However, there is a caveat stating that they may open campgrounds sooner than that. We hope this is true as I'm sure you do too!

Currently, all reservations have been cancelled and blocked until May 31st, 2020. Campers may make reservations via recreation.gov after this date. However, we will be performing rolling reservation cancellations as the days roll by and we are not open. If your reservation is cancelled due to the COVID-19 shutdown, you will receive a full refund (it may come in two installations!) Our hope is to be able to honor all current reservations once we open.

We will post any updates here and on our website. If you have any questions or concerns about Pisgah National Forest please call the Visitor Center at 828-887-3265.

In the meantime, stay safe and healthy. We will see you soon!

We are sad to report that the North Mills River Recreational Area & Campground will be closed starting Monday, March 23rd until at least May 15th. If you would like more details on the closing, please visit the US Forest Service website. We hope to see you all once we re-open!

Please Note: Any campers with reservations during this time will receive an email from recreation.gov regarding refunds.
