The Villas at Spanish Court are located just off the edge of historic downtown Minden. They sat vacant for nearly 40 years and were close to being lost forever.

The minute I laid eyes on them, I knew they were special. It’s unusual to find “Spanish Style” in our neck of the woods, so I opted to save them.

These were the first apartments in Minden, and the most “state of the art in Louisiana” at the time, so it was important to save them… securing a place in history for all time.

We have a ton of newspaper clippings and stories from the mid 1990s about the “goings on” here. Bridge club, poker nights, “high society” visitors, a “lady of the night”, a midnight pump organ sounding from next door, snakes in jars in a fridge… I could go on and on.

These are some of my favorite before and after shots of The Villas. They were once abandoned, and we haven’t been able to determine why.

But 5 years ago, I bought them with a dream of turning them into a little, boutique short term stay property just on the edge of the historic downtown in Minden, Louisiana.

Now it’s full of people, cars, laughter, and life—and I still can’t believe my team and I brought historic property back to life!

Sometimes it hits me that what was once forgotten is now a destination! It’s wild what a little vision, a lot of grit, and a whole lot of determination can do! 💥

“I have traveled all over the world and Minden has a magnetic essence, and the hospitality that
beckons from the Spanish Villas draws us back time and again.”

Yesterday evening I was walking through The Villas at Spanish Court at the end of the day doing room checks before check-in, and I really took time to soak in some of the kind words from our guest books. This particular one really took my breath away. All this may look easy from the outside, but let me tell you this is hard, strenuous work and I have the absolute best team there is…. They keep all of the systems and processes running smoothly. When this is evident to our guests, it truly means more than you could ever imagine.

😭😭😭😭😭 And this is why so many people are coming to our town. Minden is magnetic. Our hospitality shines time and time again. People love the slow pace, good food, quaint shops, our murals and historic architecture.
