Rustic Art Gallery & Trading Post, as well as Valle della Pace Winery and tasting room are making great use of 113 East Commerce Street in the Beckham Hotel. Rustic Art Gallery Co-owner Kent Huffman (shown) along with co-owner Stephen Eggleston welcome visitors to enjoy their unique rustic art and other items from Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. Valle della Pace is from Garden Valley and is by winemaker Don Clark. His son Josh serves as assistant winemaker. They proudly serve Uncles pizza as well. The art gallery is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The days/hours for the winery are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Don't miss these gems in this historic location on Commerce Street nearly across from the Caboose and right next door to The Barnyard!

The Guest Cottage, a “tiny house” separate from the Lake Lounge, features a 10x16 screened porch and a half bath. Below are a few photos of this modern farmhouse style cottage, which I originally designed and built for my grandchildren and their friends.

The two guest houses on the property are now ready for rental! I have guests this weekend but the summer is open! I’ve included photos the Lake Lounge from today in case you haven’t seen the AirBnB, VRBO, Evolve or other websites.

🚗✨ Before Interstate 20 cut its way across East Texas, there was Highway 80 — the road that carried generations of travelers, truckers, and families on the move.

Laid out in 1926, U.S. Highway 80 stretched from Savannah, Georgia, all the way to San Diego, California. Through East Texas it entered at Waskom, passed through Marshall, Longview, Gladewater, Mineola, Grand Saline, Terrell, and rolled on into Dallas.

In the 1930s through the 1950s, Highway 80 was known as the “Dixie Overland Highway” and sometimes the “Broadway of America.” It was one of the busiest cross-country routes in the nation. Small towns along the way thrived with service stations, diners, motels, and tourist courts catering to travelers.

But when Interstate 20 was completed in the 1960s and 1970s, much of that traffic shifted away. Many roadside businesses faded, leaving behind memories of a golden age of travel.

Even today, though, Highway 80 still runs through East Texas — a reminder of the days when America hit the open road on two-lane highways, neon motel signs lit up the night, and every little town along the way had its place on the Main Street of America.
