Unite Here! Local 17 We are Minnesota's Hospitality Union! H.E.R.E., the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union, was formed in 1891 and merged with UNITE in 2004.

Local 17 is a branch of UNITE HERE, an International labor union that combines industrial and textile workers (the former UNITE union) and hospitality workers (the former HERE union). We have over 500,000 members in the United States and are working non-stop to organize more. In the Twin Cities area, Local 17 represents roughly 6,000 workers in hotels, restaurants, bars, caterers, cafeterias, spor

ts complexes, MSP airport, breweries, distilleries and other hospitality-related businesses. Our members are as diverse as Minnesota itself. Approximately 70% of Local 17’s members are immigrants and the majority of members are women. The members of Local 17 speak more than 17 languages and dialects We’re your parents, your neighbors, your friends and your spouses as well as the people who cook meals in restaurants, make beds in hotels, mix drinks in bars and sell hot dogs at ball games. Attorney General highlighted his work on the non-profit stadium scam in this year's Minnesota Attorney General’s Labor Day Report!

"The organization claimed that it provided grants to families for school expenses and activities like sports teams and dance, but in fact it interfered with union jobs by having its “volunteers” provide essentially low-cost labor for the benefit of vendors operating for-profit concession stands"

Delaware North workers at Target Field have been sounding the alarm about non-profits at Target Field during contract negotiations.

Now Attorney General Keith Ellison is standing up for workers!
"Charities can't do an end-run around employment law by abusing their nonprofit status to save on labor costs," Ellison said in a statement. "MNFI was a sham charity that took advantage of parents who wanted to afford their children's activities by luring them into 'volunteering' their labor in exchange for future 'grants,' which is a clear violation of Minnesota law."

On Wednesday Delaware North workers at Target Field held a 1 Day Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike relating to this "sham charity" and we won't stop fighting until Delaware North stops committing ULPs!

MN Fundraising Initiative promised grants for school expenses but functioned as a staffing agency, supplying low-cost "volunteers" to concession stands at Target Field, US Bank Stadium and other venues.

"Unite Here Local 17, the union that represents the 500 Target Field concessions workers, says Delaware North failed to bargain in good faith by subcontracting Minnesota Funding Initiative volunteers.

The union also says the management company interrogated and surveilled workers during a strike in June, when employees walked out to fight for higher wages and better benefits."

This afternoon, I joined Target Field Delaware North Company workers at their Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike.

I was proud that the Minneapolis City Council unanimously passed a resolution urging Delaware North Company to respect the important work UNITE HERE Local 17 members do at Target Field, bargain in good faith, and agree to a fair collective bargaining agreement.
