Erik’s Ranch & Retreats: Vision Has No Bounds

When Erik was born in 1991, two in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, a staggering one in 58 is diagnosed. As these children reach adulthood, services nearly drop off and 81% of these individuals live with aging parents, relegated to meaningless jobs that offer little dignity or hope regardless of their education or IQ.

Echoing the perennial parental question, “What will happen to my child when I am no longer able to care for him?”, Kathryn wasn’t satisfied with Erik’s options once he reached adulthood. So, in the past few years, Kathryn and a team of psychologists, attorneys, architects, marketing and business professionals developed an all-encompassing and completely innovative model that provides young adults with autism individual, safe and secure housing, careers, social opportunities and the dignity of living life on their own terms that they rightfully deserve.

And so, in 2007, Kathryn wrote the white paper and in 2008, our 501 (c)3 was filed. A few other miraculous stars aligned including the use of a residential center in Edina, MN, and the donation of 230 acres beautiful private acres by a philanthropist in Paradise Valley, MT. Kathryn’s dream became reality and Erik’s Ranch & Retreats came to fruition and an answer for the more than 500,000 young adults on the autism spectrum that will reach adulthood in the next decade.

We had a ribbon cutting ceremony at our Grand Opening in April (autism awareness month) of 2014 at Erik’s Retreat.
