Sand Flats Recreation Area is east of town, above the valley. The Slickrock Bike Trail and the Hell’s Revenge jeep route start there. A day pass is required at the entrance booth.

October is a better month for it than July. Come back to town before the road is fully dark.

November is a workable month for a Moab wedding. The heat is gone. Star Hall and downtown courtyards are easier to book than they are in May.

The Moab Folk Festival celebrates 24 years on November 6-9. Set in the stunning red rock canyon country of southeastern Utah, this intimate festival presents an outstanding lineup of singer-songwriters, Americana, roots, and bluegrass music. The Festival will take place at an outdoor venue, the Moab City Ballpark, and indoors at Star Hall.

Performers include Rising Appalachia, Leftover Salmon, John Craigie, Bonnie Paine, Sister Sadie, Steve Poltz, The Rebel Eves, Jordan Smart, and Melissa Chilinski & Pearly Blue.

There are also several free public workshops and events offered throughout the weekend.

Two sandstone buttes north of Moab, seen from the Mill Canyon area. The road is graded and continues past the dinosaur tracks.

Plan on half a day. A higher-clearance vehicle is the better choice, especially after rain.

Corona Arch is outside Arches National Park, up Potash Road and a marked trail of about three miles round trip. Bowtie Arch is on the same walk. There is a cable section. It is not a stroller path.

Start early. The rock holds the heat even in October.

Castle Valley sits east of Moab, under Castleton Tower and the Rectory. It is a working valley, not a park entrance: orchards, a narrow road, and sandstone towers.

The drive fits a morning. Return to town for the evening.
