The Ahmeek Coppermine Camp has a fascinating history dating back to the early 1900s. In this image from 1903, we see a mine shaft entrance. Many of the old Ahmeek Coppermine shafts were as deep as 10,000 feet!

Welcome to our new series, , where we spotlight the local hiking trails, activities and experiences that make Keweenaw so special. Today’s feature is the Black Creek Nature Sanctuary Trail. Located just 15 minutes from our site, this 3.4 mile out-and-back trail is great for beginner and seasoned hikers alike.
