Horses remind us that growth often begins with curiosity. They investigate new surroundings, build confidence one step at a time, and teach us that adventure doesn't always mean going far—it can simply mean being open to what comes next.

At Double Hearts Ranch, we're grateful for the lessons our horses share every day: to stay curious, trust the journey, and enjoy the moments spent together along the way.

🎉🫏 Happy Belated 14th Birthday to Ernie! 🫏🎉

We may be a little late to the party, but we couldn't let May 27th pass without celebrating one of the biggest personalities at Double Hearts Ranch!

If you've ever visited the ranch, chances are you've met Ernie—and chances are you've fallen in love with him. From his curious face peering over the fence to his larger-than-life personality, Ernie has a way of making everyone smile.

As you can probably tell from these photos, Ernie believes life should be lived to the fullest! Whether he's striking a pose for the camera, enjoying a favorite treat, or rolling around in the grass without a care in the world, he knows how to have fun.

But don't let that sweet face fool you. Ernie is also quite the ranch engineer and professional troublemaker. He has mastered the art of unchaining pasture gates and has declared an ongoing battle against the downspouts on the machine shed. If something is hanging, rattling, or attached where he thinks it shouldn't be, Ernie is determined to investigate it!

Two years ago this month, we welcomed Ernie to Double Hearts Ranch after rescuing him from a kill pen in Stroud, Oklahoma. Looking back, it's hard to imagine the ranch without him. What started as a rescue became one of the greatest blessings for our herd and everyone who visits the ranch.

Ernie has taught us so much about curiosity, resilience, joy, and living in the moment. He makes us laugh daily, keeps us humble, and reminds us that sometimes the best adventures begin with a little mischief.

Happy 14th Birthday, Ernie! Thank you for the laughter, the love, the escaped gates, the missing downspouts, and the countless memories. We are so grateful you found your way home to Double Hearts Ranch.

🎉🐴 Happy 11th Birthday to Classy Blue Comet "Blue"! 🐴🎉

We may be a few weeks behind, but Blue turned 11 years old on May 18th, and we couldn't let the occasion pass without celebrating one of the sweetest members of the Double Hearts Ranch herd! 💙

Blue is one of those horses who keeps life interesting. While she has a nurturing and gentle side, she also has a playful spirit that sometimes reminds us of a child. If she doesn't agree with the plan, she'll toss her head, make her opinion known, and occasionally test whether she really has to follow directions. 😊

Over the years, Blue has also earned the title of being one of the more injury-prone members of the herd, often keeping us on our toes with scrapes, bumps, and unexpected adventures. Thankfully, she always seems to bounce back and continue being her sweet self.

What we love most about Blue is her kind heart. She has a calming presence, a special bond with the donkeys, and a way of connecting with people that makes them feel welcome. She is as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside, and we are grateful every day that she is part of the Double Hearts Ranch family.

And if you know Blue, you know there is one way straight to her heart—carrot treats! 🥕🥕🥕 Blue absolutely LOVES her carrots and is always happy to accept a birthday snack (or two... or three!).

What an honor to attend the ribbon cutting and reipenning of the beach at Thousand Hills State Park while representing the Missouri State Parks Foundation Board.

It was wonderful to see community leaders, supporters, park staff and advocates come together to celebrate this exciting addition that will create lasting memories for families and visitors for years to come. Missouri’s state parks are truly treasures, and it is inspiring to witness continued investments that help connect people with nature, recreation, and wellness.

At Double Hearts Ranch, we deeply value the healing and restorative power of the outdoors, so being part of this special event was especially meaningful.
