Happy St Patrick’s Day! ☘️ ‘The Irish came to Texas in the early 1800s. San Patricio & Refugio, towns near Corpus Christi, were the first Irish settlements in Texas. 12 Irishmen died at the Alamo, 14 were with Fannin at Goliad & about 100 fought with Sam Houston at San Jacinto!’ ❤️

After independence was declared in 1836, Texas needed leadership.

Sam Houston was chosen as commander-in-chief of the Texian army.

Outnumbered and facing a powerful Mexican force under Santa Anna, Houston avoided direct confrontation and waited for the right moment.

That moment came on April 21, 1836.

In just 18 minutes at the Battle of San Jacinto, the Texian army secured victory and captured Santa Anna.

The Republic of Texas had survived.

History remembers the Alamo.

But it was Sam Houston who secured Texas independence.
