Lady Raiders Windmill FUNdamentals
We are going to try providing basic instruction in the mechanics of throwing a softball windmill style to all local children. Ages are not specified but the instruction will be directed to the basics and will not, at first, be directed to the learning of movement pitches. The primary focus will be on proper mechanics, basic control of the fastball and changeup, and throwing strikes. Learning proper technique to prevent arm and shoulder injuries will be stressed. Depending on the level of the individual girl, movement pitches may be introduced at some point in time. There is no fee connected with this activity. The only cost is your patience and your time.
The location of the workouts will be at the high school field, at the MACC, or at the facility of Dawn and Tom Persing for 30 or so minute sessions. Each player participating will need to have a catcher and their own gloves. I might be able to coax Coach Amanda into catching once in a while, Addie will be there some, and maybe a guest catcher once in a while. I am too old to catch anymore. Knees are still good but bifocals and cataract surgery leaves me with excellent vision at 43 feet, not so much when the ball is only 3 feet from the glove. On occasion there may be a somewhat bizarre training aid provided. All in fun of course. The dates, time and locations may change on occasion.
Not only the physical aspects but also the mental aspects of pitching will be addressed at length. We will strive to make corrections in the form and technique that your daughter employs as she develops.
This is low intensity. You “gotta wanna pitch” and have fun doing it without losing the competitive aspect. Please understand that your daughter, or yourself, may decide this is not for her and she may not like it. Please respect her decision and don’t force her into it. Believe us, we understand completely.
We also would like to try to provide the opportunity for the high school girls to get in more swings off the T, field more ground balls, throw harder and further, and improve overall knowledge of the game. That is still in the planning stages. Please contact Coach Amanda or myself at the numbers listed below if interested. Thank you.
