‼️The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park is officially back OPEN!! 🥳🥳🥳

The National Park has been closed since June 28th due to the Babylon Fire which has grown to over 107,000 acres. There were over 1,500 personnel at one point to get a handle on this fire. In the beginning, the strong winds we had for 3 days pushed the fire to grow rapidly. There were days it was growing by 7 miles per day! We were seeing a 10,000+ acres increase daily. It was TERRIFYING! We thought at times, we were going to loose our home and business. Something we have been working on building for the past 6 years.

The firefighters have been working tirelessly on this fire and we have seen the benefits from all their efforts. The fire is barely growing now and the containment is up to 82% with HWY 211 and The Needles District of Canyonlands NP being fully reopened. There are still some BLM and Forest Service roads that are still closed.

The pictures are from our honeymoon in 2012. The Needles District was my first ever backpacking trip and Erik’s bazillionth time. This area has always been in our hearts and knew we wanted to come back here one day. We are thankful our land, the surrounding lands and Canyonlands National Park is safe.

It will be sad to see the damage the fire has caused the Abajo Mountains area. 107,000 is a lot of land! We’ve only been here 6 years but for those that have been here for generations, are feeling the pain and loss of their mountain. 💔

The Babylon Fire is still active but we are feeling hopeful. ♥️
