It has been one of those summers where you look and see yourself about a mile away - always trying to catch-up, busy every minutes, working 7 days a week, and not getting any closer..... Not really complaining - it has been a great summer at The Legacy and at the Distillery. I post today because we have our first 5 times guests, Lynea and Crisanne from PA. They are NASCAR fans and have been coming to Watkins for years. Got to spend a few minutes with them last night - it does make all the hard work worth while when you meet such wonderful people....

I was cleaning the Master Bedroom yesterday (my parents former bedroom) and looked out to the back yard. My dad opened the iconic Chef's Diner in 1949. I doubt that he missed 100 days at the restaurant until his death in 2006. They did not travel. Their home was their vacation. As I looked at the pool and the gardens, I could see why they loved being at home.

The summer season kicked off last weekend with Martha and Michael walking to the falls to get married. Just before they became Mr. and Mrs. they had a moment in the Rosemary's Legacy back yard. We wish them the best of luck - a wonderful couple....

Denise and Scott, from Reading, PA, will check in tomorrow as part of Finger Lakes Wine Country's Winter in Wine Country Package. They will have a cheese plate of local cheeses waiting for them, have two breakfasts (by Johnny) and a gourmet 5 course dinner on Friday evening. They will also receive the Winter in Wine Country passport and a free tasting and tour (given by the very same breakfast cook) at the Distillery tomorrow.

Travel to Finger Lakes Wine Country, New york during the winter and enjoy winter in wine country. Participating accommodations will offer winter in wine country packages like stay two nights, get the third night free, and a Finger Lakes PALATE passport with coupons for free wine tastings, free museu...

My first Thanksgiving in this home was in 1949 - I was a year old. From 1949 to 2007 the only Thanksgiving that I would miss here was in 1970 when I was in basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Rosemary died early in 2008 and there has been no Thanksgiving dinner here since then - until today. We will have 9 around the family table that produced so many memories, for so many years. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

Breakfast for 4 this chilly morning. Two couples taking advantage of the "Deck the Halls" wine trail event. Then off to pour whiskey at the Distillery - which appeared on the front page of the Star-Gazette this morning....... Hey Larry, guess what they are having for breakfast?????

I know, I know, I have a lot of stories like this, BUT, I do have another. I was preparing breakfast for some great people from the Plattsburgh area this morning. They were in town to attend their son's graduation from the the New York State Fire Academy. They drove through Geneva yesterday and asked if I knew anything about the college there. I told them that I graduated from Hobart in 1970. One of the ladies said that she dated a boy from Hobart, and they remain friends to this day. Frank Carey has been a long time friend. As she said (and I echo once again), "small world."
