Last weekend, Keyhole had the privilege of hosting a campout for a group of veterans and their families based out of Upton, Wyoming.

Keyhole staff have been working with Upton Veterans Talking to Veterans coach, Tom Johnson, for the past year to develop programming for veterans at Keyhole.

Despite the less than ideal weather, the weekend was a success thanks to the dedicated efforts of Tom, his wife Helen, our veterans, and the generous donors from Upton who supplied the food for the weekend.

A special thank you to Casper College for hosting their dark sky program last Saturday and being willing to coordinate the program so our veterans could attend!

Due to the current extreme fire danger conditions and the active Stage 2 Fire Ban, the annual fireworks show put on by the Pine Haven Volunteer Fire Department is canceled.

Keyhole State Park staff have been working closely with the PHVFD to monitor fire conditions, but conditions have not improved enough to host this year's show.

Pine Haven Volunteer Fire Department Chief, T.J. Gideon, stated "This decision was not made lightly. The risk to the Town of Pine Haven, Keyhole State Park and the safety of our residents and visitors is simply too great under current conditions. In times of extreme fire danger, fire crews become quickly overwhelmed, and a large public fireworks event of this nature would only add to the potential for a serious and devastating incident".

We hope to celebrate with you all next year if conditions allow!
