Summer maintenance position open at Moro Bay

A summer maintenance position is open at the park which includes trash pickup, w**d eating, and other duties as assigned. This job is out in the summer heat and works 4 days a week Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It pays $12.50 an hour. We are looking for a person who could work through June and July. All applicants 18yrs of age or older are encouraged to apply. A background and drivers license check is required. Any interested persons should email or call the park (email - [email protected]) (Phone - 870-463-8555).

The photo shown below is from this morning as the park hosted a field trip from Hampton Elementary's 3rd Grade. Asst. Supt. Mike Thomas took each class on a boat tour while the Park Supt. led a hike and Facility Manager Caleb Myers taught about Reptiles of Moro Bay.

Update from the Bay - good river levels, upcoming Memorial Day Programs, and a summer maintenance position is open.

River levels have remained low through the winter and spring but recent rains finally removed the burn ban. We did get a minor rise in the river recently but the River level today is 66.30 ft and falling.

The Memorial Day Holiday is fast approaching. The park will be offering some tours and programs which can be viewed in the picture below. Keep in mind some programs such as boat tours require signing up first since space is limited.

Last but not least. A summer maintenance position is open at the park which includes trash pickup, w**d eating, and other duties as assigned. This job is out in the summer heat and works 4 days a week Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It pays $12.50 an hour. We are looking for a person who could start this month (May) and work through mid July. All applicants 18yrs of age or older are encouraged to apply. A background and drivers license check is required. Any interested persons should email or call the park (email - [email protected]) (Phone - 870-463-8555).

Update from the Bay - Burn ban removed, first signs of Spring, and a recent school project donated to the Park.

The rain from this past weekend measured 0.30 inches at the park but it was enough to remove the burn ban. The river has come up a little to 67.50 ft (a 2 ft rise) but we are a long way from any flooding given the unusually dry fall and winter.

The Mayhaws are blooming as well as the Spring Beautys giving us the first signs of Spring. The Mayhaws are not blooming in the water so the old saying "If they bloom in the water, they will fall in the water" must not apply this year.

Also, The warren High School East Program made a 3-d model of the Moro Bay Ferry which they presented to the park this past Friday. In the photo (from left to right) is Assistant Superintendent Mike Thomas, Student Treyden Newton, Student Ryan Spears, Student Kaystean Jacobs, Student CJ McGhee, and Student Jaylon Harding. This model as well as other interesting nature and history displays can be viewed in the parks exhibit room adjoined to the Visitor Center.

Fall is here and other updates

The picture shown of the fall foliage is from Moro Bay but it is not this year; no yet anyway. We are starting to see a little break in the heat and a little more wind but we are still under a burn ban. However it appears rain is coming this week and perhaps we can say good bye to temperatures in the 90's.

October and November are usually very busy months in terms of occupancy at the Bay but surprisingly there are still many openings for cabins and campsites. It is best to book now because once the weather cools people we want to get outside and these facilities will likely book up fast. The fastest easiest way to book a site is by visiting the website here: https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/parks/moro-bay-state-park

Last but not least, in the spirit of fall and the coming holidays we still have a good selection of Arkansas Pickled Vegetables and Arkansas Made soup mixes as well as a popular selection of the old classic rubber band guns.

For questions or reservations please contact the park. This page is managed by volunteers and does not reply to questions or comments. It is simply a bulletin board for the public to share information.

Update from the Bay - Labor Day is full this year and the annual Cross country race is slated for September the 6th

The park recorded almost 1 inch of rain in the last 24 hours and the river is a little cloudy having risen half a foot to 65.5ft. The burn ban has been lifted.

The Campground and Cabins are full for this Labor Day weekend but reservations for next year are available online by visiting the website here. https://reserve.arkansasstateparks.com/moro-bay/

The parks annual Cross country race will be Saturday September the 6th. The event is put on by Hermitage High School and is hosted by the park. Parking for the race will be $5 per vehicle and traffic will be stopped at intervals during the race from 8 am to noon for the safety of the runners.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!!!

Update from the Bay - Current River level, Free Fishing weekend, and Boaters Education class coming up

The current river level at the Bay is 80.90ft and since the River has crested at Thatcher Lock and Dam, just upriver from us, we are cresting today. The normal summer river level is 65ft so we are about 16ft above normal. That being said it will be a week or more before the fishing picks up and the sandbars are accessible.

Free fishing weekend is coming up this weekend June 6th (starting at noon) and ending June 8th (midnight). This means anyone can fish without a fishing license for this weekend.

The park has scheduled a 6 hr. in person boating education class for those who need it Saturday June 28th. Who needs it? Anyone born on or after Jan. 1st 1986 who wants to drive a boat. There is a written test so students need to be on a 6th grade reading level. Follow the link below to sign up and see more details; only 10 spaces are still open.

Good news. Looks like we are at a crest now. The current river level is 87.70 ft. It has only risen 1/10th of a foot since yesterday evening. Also it's 2ft lower than projected. Still a major flood but not a record.
