THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF LAKE HEMET

People ask us a lot why the water level of Lake Hemet fluctuates from year to year. That is a great question and we love answering it!

Lake Hemet is actually a freshwater reservoir owned by a fantastic agency called the Lake Hemet Municipal Water District.
When rain and snow levels are high in a given year, the lake level rises quickly and substantially as a result, with Hurkey Creek being a primary inlet. Water is then taken from the reservoir to provide for the surrounding community and its agriculture. In this way, the reservoir is doing exactly what it was designed to do. As a reservoir it is only refilled by rain and snow runoff so when we have seasons of very low rain and snow (as we have had the last two years), the water level remains low.
The good news is that Lake Hemet is extraordinarily beautiful regardless of water level! We can all take heart in knowing that when we see it low, this gorgeous resource is providing for agriculture and residents alike by making up the difference in drought years.

🔥 CAMPFIRE SAFETY🔥

There is nothing quite like ending the day gathered around a crackling campfire with family and friends, sharing stories, roasting marshmallows, and making memories that last a lifetime.
At Lake Hemet, we want every campfire experience to be safe, enjoyable, and respectful of our beautiful mountain surroundings.

Here's what you need to know:

🔥 Campfires are always permitted at Lake Hemet Campground, unless a High Wind Advisory is in effect.
🔥 Fires must only be built in the fire rings provided at each campsite.
🔥 Never leave a campfire unattended, even for a few minutes.
🔥 Keep your fire at a manageable size and never burn trash, plastics, or other prohibited materials.
🔥 Only burn wood that has been aged for at least 6-12 months. Burning green wood often produces excessive smoke.
🔥 Keep children and pets a safe distance from the fire.
🔥 Before turning in for the night or leaving your campsite, completely extinguish your fire.

Your safety is our priority. As a private campground, our team is onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help ensure campfires are enjoyed responsibly. As an added comfort, both CAL FIRE and our local fire station also make regular patrols through the campground to help keep everyone safe.

Together, we can continue enjoying one of camping's favorite traditions while helping protect our forest, our neighbors, and the beautiful mountain community we all love.
