Come ride the last public ferry in Arkansas.
Come on and take a FREE ride!
If you haven't experienced it, you have to. The last public ferryboat operating in Arkansas, the Peel Ferry transports vehicles and passengers across a section of Bull Shoals Lake. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ferry runs every 40 minutes from the Peel, Arkansas (south side) to Protem, Missouri (north side).
The Peel Ferry operates on Highway 125 between the 125 Recreation Area and The Buck Creek Recreation Area. If you went by roads only from Peel to Protem it would roughly take you an hour and a half. The slow and steady 2-mile journey across the lake takes about 20 minutes, and it's actually FREE!
If you've never been on a ferry ride before, what are you waiting for? The ferry can take a motorcycle up to an 18 wheeler, but there are weight restrictions. Well trained pets are always welcome but the Corps of Engineers requires that they be leashed at ALL times and NOT allowed to run loose.

Please experience this before it's too late! According to the Arkansas Highways and Transportation Department, there were 17 ferry boats operating in Arkansas in 1968. Today, the Peel Ferry is the only operating public ferry left in Arkansas.
The Peel Ferry was put into place when the dam was built on the White River to create Bull Shoals Lake. The Bull Shoals Dam was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1951. It is the fifth largest concrete dam in the United States.
The Peel Ferry servers as a valuable asset for the people who live in the area. Without a bridge, the people on either side of the lake would have to travel almost 100 miles through either Branson, Missouri or Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Tell them FunInArkansas sent you. They'll be glad you did!
