"Dismal River Club is one of those rare destinations that is absolutely worth the effort to reach. Getting there isn’t easy, but once you arrive, you immediately understand why people make the trip.

The golf is outstanding. Both links-style courses are exceptional, but the Jack Nicklaus White Course was our favorite. The layout, conditioning, and scenery make for a truly memorable golf experience.

The food was extraordinary throughout our stay, and the staff could not have been more friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

Accommodations were excellent, with comfortable room and cottage options that fit a variety of group sizes.

Beyond golf, there are plenty of activities including s***t shooting, long-range target shooting, and fishing. Whether you’re planning a buddies golf trip or a couples getaway, Dismal River offers something for everyone.

We had a fantastic experience and are already looking forward to coming back."

Pheasant season opens September 15 and runs through mid-April, but there's a specific stretch worth knowing about: September 15 through October 11, when the golf course is still in its best fall condition and the birds are already up and moving 🍂

Most trips are built around one or the other. Dismal River's Upland Express package is built for both — one guided pheasant hunt added onto a Stay & Play visit, so a round in the morning and a walk behind the dogs in the afternoon happen on the same trip instead of two separate ones.

A Nebraska hunting license is required and available through Game and Parks.

It's National Dog Day, and we'd be remiss not to give Dixie her moment.

The German Shorthaired Pointer belongs to John, our GM, but honestly — she runs the property like she owns the place. You'll find her greeting guests at the clubhouse, checking in on the kids, and covering more ground in a day than most of us do all week.

Dixie is as much a part of Dismal River as the fairways and the fire pit. Happy National Dog Day to our favorite four-legged team member.

Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak built two entirely different courses on the same 3,000 acres in Nebraska. Here’s how their polar-opposite design philosophies play out back-to-back at Dismal River.

It sounds cliché... "When you get here, you'll understand" We've all heard some version of this at some point or another...

But right now, you're seeing this through your phone. The pretty drone shots that show the beauty of the Sandhills and how the sunset hits the fairways just right...

But what it can't show you is the part that actually gets you...

The warmth of the staff that are genuinely happy to see you. The particular quiet of the Sandhills at dusk, right before the UTVs head out for sunset to find an even quieter version of it.

The way a hunt or a round here doesn't feel like a break from your life — it feels like a different way of living entirely, one you didn't know you were missing.

None of that translates to video. It's not built to.
Some places you can watch. This one, you have to stand in to really understand.

From September 15 through October 8, a rare window opens up at Dismal River Club. Before the golf courses close for the season and right as upland bird hunting begins, you can hunt pheasant in the morning and play 18 holes of championship links by afternoon.
