Here is the initial storm total snowfall analysis for the historic blizzard that moved through Upper Great Lakes Saturday night through Tuesday morning. The blizzard brought thunder to Menominee and Delta counties on Sunday and widespread heavy snow to much of the central and eastern U.P, with rates of 2"+ per hour. Another round of snow moved through late Sunday night into Monday bringing widespread moderate to heavy snow to the same areas. Lake enhancement along with the upslope flow brought nearly continuous moderate to heavy snow in the north wind snowbelts, particularly over the higher elevations of northern Baraga, Marquette and Alger Counties where 3-4 feet of snow occurred. Snowfall measurements were extremely challenging as wind gusts of 50-60 mph resulted in blowing and drifting snow, with drifts of several feet reported. We have got a TON of SNOW in Alger County. Christmas week was once one of the most requested weeks but the snow was unreliable. Many DM us for "TRUE" snow reports. Reports from even as far south as Manistique have ready to ride snow. So if anyone was thinking about a Early ride. Munising/Alger County has plenty.
