โ ๏ธ Safety Notice: Bait Balls on the Grand Strand โ ๏ธ
If you see swarms of small fish or a dark shadow just below the surface of the water, you're likely looking at a bait ball. These dense schools form when fish are trying to escape predators, and they often attract dolphins, birds, and sometimes sharks.
While shark encounters are rare, increased predator activity means a higher risk. If you notice rapid fish movement or birds diving, exit the water calmly and avoid the area. Lifeguards are there for your safety, if they ask you to exit the water, please do so right away.
This is a natural part of our coastal ecosystem, but your safety comes first.
