Our Buccaneer Bay Seawall project is well underway! The first part of building up the bank is complete. The barge and other construction materials will arrive early November and work will continue πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Once complete, this improvement will provide a scenic and relaxing recreation space, a leisure fishing dock, and a protective barrier to combat erosion of the bank 🎣 We hope for the project to be finished by March 1, 2027.

We are saddened to share that Dennis Sims, a long-time camper, resident, and employee of PirateLand passed away on September 29.

Our community is close-knit and Dennis was a great neighbor and friend. Dennis also worked at PirateLand from 2008 through 2019. In his role as Gate/Patrol Supervisor, he sometimes met people at their best and sometimes, their worst. To know Dennis, was to know one of the β€œgood ones”. A man that could mediate and bring calm to any situation. We really wanted to convey the greatness his presence brought to our crew, so we asked some of our staff who worked with him to share thoughts and memories about Dennis so we could share them with our community and these were some of the things we heard:

~He was a man of his word
~His smile was comforting
~He always did what needed to be done
~He was kind and sensitive and when he was recounting something that moved him or left an impression, he would hold his arm up and say β€œI’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it” and he did that all the time! It gives me goosebumps when I think of that.
~He was amazing at keeping people calm and he had such a calming demeanor in every situation
~He ran bike week like clockwork
~He cared about us, and the whole PirateLand community
~Very hard worker and he loved helping people
~He never drank alcohol and he loved basketball
~He was amazing out there and always helped us with maintenance
~He was a man with morals and integrity

Truly a great man to work with and to know. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen and all of their family β™₯πŸ™ Feel free to share any fond thoughts or memories you have of Dennis in the comments.
