This morning, the Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue Program released Honeybun, a female juvenile gray seal, back to her ocean home. Honeybun was rescued by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) on 04/1/26 from Chatham, Massachusetts, for lethargy and traumatic wounds. The seal was transferred to Mystic Aquarium on 4/2/26 for rehabilitation. On examination, the seal was found to have multiple severe hind-end wounds, was dehydrated, and had an infection. After 5 weeks of an individualized treatment plan and world-class care, she recovered well, gained over 22 lbs, and was deemed ready to head back to her ocean home!

All activities conducted under a stranding agreement through NMFS.
