It may seem strange for me to share this on my Pequot Hotel B and B page, but those of you who have visited us in Mystic have met either my first Basenji, Mason,(d. 2009) or my second Basenji Haley,(b. 2010) and therefor may be curious about the history of the breed.

The Seaport is repairing the ship to return to Plymouth for the celebration in 2020.

MAYFLOWER II was hauled out of the water in the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport on Friday, November 18, 2016. The process took about two and a half hours to maneuver the ship in the lift, settle her properly on the cradle, and then lift the ship out of the water. The next step will be to power wash the hull and pull her into the yard and then sideways to the spot where the restoration work will take place. That should happen early next week.

"Decoration Day" at Mystic Seaport this weekend.

Did you know Memorial Day was first known as Decoration Day? It was formally instituted by the U.S. Government in 1868 as a day of national remembrance of those killed during the Civil War. Decoration Day observances included tending and decorating the graves of the fallen, church services, solemn processions, and community suppers.
