The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) is bringing back one of the Outer Banks’ newest fall traditions with the second annual Roanoke Island Shellabration & BBQ, taking place Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 1–4 p.m. at Safe Harbor Marina and Tiki Bar.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s Shellabration will feature an expanded lineup of North Carolina oyster farmers, local barbecue, regional food specialties and live entertainment — all for the same $95 ticket price.

Guests will have the opportunity to taste a variety of oysters from North Carolina growers, including both freshly shucked and roasted oysters, while enjoying a full afternoon of coastal food and entertainment. The menu will also feature barbecue, chowders, desserts and other regional specialties.

Local Outer Banks vendors participating in this year’s event include Salt & Cypress, Cousin’s Oysters, Sooey’s BBQ, Swells’a Brewing, and Johanna’s at the Wanchese Tiki Hut.

Adding to the afternoon will be live music from local band Partly Crowdy, creating the perfect soundtrack for a fall afternoon on the waterfront.

$95 Ticket Includes

· All food and oyster tastings

· Fresh raw, steamed, fried and roasted North Carolina oysters

· Barbecue and regional food specialties

· A variety of drink options including local breweries and non-alcoholic options provided by Pepsi Bottling Ventures

The event is open to guests ages 21 and older, and ample parking will be available.

The Roanoke Island Shellabration & BBQ is also a fundraiser supporting The Lost Colony and its upcoming 90th anniversary season in 2027. Proceeds from the event will help support the production, preservation and continued presentation of America’s longest-running outdoor symphonic drama as it prepares to celebrate nine decades of telling the story of the Lost Colony on Roanoke Island. The 90th season will be a milestone celebration of the production’s history, legacy and enduring connection to the Outer Banks community.

The surfing competition is organized into 6 divisions by age and gender.
