A New Moon is Rising!

When we first opened the doors to Blue Moon Beach Grill in February 2009, we had 8 tables, 13 bar seats, and 2 chefs. We hoped customers would show up and we would be able to fill those 8 tables. Every day wasn’t a “good day”, but slowly…. you showed up. And then, you came back. We outgrew our space, knocked down walls, built around the structure we had to work with and 13 years later, we found ourselves at a point where we knew what the next step needed to be. We needed to build a new Blue Moon so that we could continue to provide a ‘once in a blue moon’ dining experience to our loyal customers. We need a space that is designed for us and — for you.

Just south of our current location is an empty lot – on the corner of S. Croatan Hwy and E. Dove Street. This is the new home of Blue Moon Beach Grill. It is important for us to stay in the same neighborhood that has been our home for the last 13 years. We love Nags Head and the new location ‘feels right.’ We are working with architect and Nags Head Mayor, Ben Cahoon, to design a restaurant that will maintain the Blue Moon vibe that you have come to love and feature the classic Nags Head cedar shake style, while giving us the space to let our chefs have a little elbow room. As we progress in the design/building phase, we will provide you with monthly updates.

We will open our doors in 2023 and bring with us our awesome crew (they are stoked!), the buoys that adorn our walls, the open kitchen that you have come to love, and the consistently delicious menu. Our coordinates may change, but our vision will not.

The owners, Will & Karen Shields and Scott & Melissa Shields, are excited to start this new chapter and sincerely appreciate your support from the beginning. The little restaurant tucked in the corner of Surfside Plaza has been great to us. We have had laughs on top of laughs, crazy experiences, and a few tears along the way, but cannot imagine starting our journey anywhere else.
