Strategic Intent

It is the mission and intent of this position that the incumbent will take full responsibility for the tasks that are given on all aspects of the Front Desk operation of the hotel.



Scope of Position

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS: Maintains positive attitude promoting Front Desk and encourages and helps stimulate positive morale of the department.

Position provides the hotel with the proper cleaning and servicing of guest rooms and assigned work areas. It is to be performed and maintained in a positive and resourceful manner. Responsible for the cleanliness of the guest rooms and all areas as defined. Will include the reporting of all areas in the assigned area that need attention by calling Housekeeping or notifying the Floor Supervisor. Will enforce and comply with the Hermitage Hotel and departmental standards and policies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Will adhere to all safety policies regarding Blood borne Pathogens using the proper equipment, chemicals and notifying the appropriate personnel.

2. Reports immediately to the assigned work area. Receive supplies, work assignments and keys for the Housekeeping office.

3. Stocks the Housekeeping cart with the necessary supplies to perform the proper cleaning of guest rooms and/or assigned areas.

4. Clean all guest rooms according to standard consistently. To include but not be limited to the following:
• Make all beds and change linen daily
• Clean the bathroom and change all towels that have been used. Shine chrome; clean the marble vanity tops and floors.
• Dust all furniture and art in room
• Re-stock all supplies according to standard
• Vacuum the room and all carpeted areas
• Spot check walls and clean if necessary
• Wipe down all fixtures and/or furniture

5. Will clean rooms according to priority, special request rooms, or VIP/Special Attention rooms. When possible, will clean all occupied rooms as assigned. Will not be permitted to clean from one end of the hall to the other in order to be self-accommodating. Must set priority for cleaning rooms and checkouts. All guest requests will be handled first or when asked.

6. In order to have clean guest rooms available for early arrivals, rooms are to be cleaned one by one. Room Attendants will completely clean one room at a time and will not strip and/or only do a section in a series of rooms.

7. Reports any discrepancies in room status to the Floor supervisor immediately.

8. Turns in all lost and found items to the Housekeeping office immediately. Time permitting – otherwise page supervisor/security for pick-up.

9. Keeps the Room Attendant’s closets clean and appropriately stocked on a daily basis. Closets are shut with the lights turned off any time when not in use.

10. Completes the special project of the day and special project of the week. Will keep guest room doors shut with Housekeeper in room sign on door and all equipment inside room being cleaned - or next to be cleaned - may not leave items in the hallways.

11. Completes special daily work assignments as assigned through a Housekeeping Manager, Floor Supervisor or the Coordinator. Assists the Houseman in turning the mattresses if necessary.

12. Will ensure the following is clean and/or perform the following duties daily:
• Vacuum the hallway immediately outside of each guest room.
• Will remove all items that do not belong in the room which can be carried to the elevator landings, room service elevators etc.
• Attach room inspection sheet for detailed cleaning list.

13. Will ensure that the daily checklist is completed for each guest room in order to maintain consistency.

14. Will use the proper cleaning supplies, based upon MSDS instructions and manufacturers specifications, and chemicals in the cleaning of all guest rooms.

15. Will report all maintenance work that needs to be completed in guest rooms to the Coordinator. Items needing attention such as: carpet cleaning, marble cleaning, all engineering work (furniture refinishing, bath problems, faucet problems, etc.)

16. Performs other duties as assigned by a Housekeeping Manager, Floor Supervisors.

17. Ensures that all hotel rules, policies and procedures are followed at all times.

18. Reports any problems, complaints or compliments to the Floor Supervisor or a Housekeeping Manager immediately.

19. Maintains a professional and pleasant manner of working every day. Reports any misbehavior or disrespect of hotel property and/or personnel to the Floor Supervisor, or the Housekeeping Manager immediately.

20. Will speak to all guests that you come into contact with in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner. Always will ascertain guest satisfaction when speaking with guests.

BASIC FUNCTIONS/SCOPE:

Makes the necessary repairs and preventive maintenance for heat, light, power, repair and maintenance work in property (hotel, exterior of building and grounds, parking lot). Follows up on all mandatory procedures - fire, safety, training, economics, efficiency of operations, etc. Performs repairs and maintenance ensuring five-diamond service while maintaining all aspects of the hotel.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reports immediately to the assigned work area.

2. Ensures that all hotel five diamond standards, policies and procedures are followed at all times.

3. Adheres to all Hermitage Hotel and departmental rules and emergency regulations as established.

4. Will use the proper tools and supplies, based upon MSDS instructions and manufacturers specifications in the repairing and maintenance of all areas.

5. Responsible for all supplies, equipment and machinery used in the completion of job assignments.

6. Maintains a professional and pleasant manner of working every day.

7. Is required to be able to work a flexible shift including days, nights, midnights, and weekends. Shifts are scheduled based on occupancy, repairs needed, etc.

8. Responds immediately to all guest calls in reference to repairs and maintenance. Ensures the proper completion and follow through of all guest requests.

9. Repairs and maintains all electrical, backup electrical systems, and mechanical machinery used in heating, ventilating, refrigeration, water supply, elevator and power system of the hotel.

10. Completes the repair and maintenance in all carpentry, wall repair, light bulb changing, wire running, etc.

11. Assists in completing painting and wallpapering in the hotel.

12. Assists in completing daily “walk throughs” in order to ascertain maintenance needs in rooms, public, and back of the house areas.

13. Process and ensure the proper operation of all control factors - fire prevention, safety, engineering systems, training, and economics.

14. Ensures the completion of all work requests generated in the hotel. Seeks to complete as many items as possible to ensure the proper operation of the hotel. Ensures the correct disposition of all work tickets.

15. Ensures the completion of a regularly scheduled PM program for guest room maintenance. Tracks and monitors all work completed. Performs the following with:
• All painting in the room
• Check and repair of all machinery (TV, Clock/radio, smoke detector, etc.)
• Bathroom items (caulking, faucets, toilets, etc.)
• Light touch up/repair of furniture.

16.Responsible for performing preventive maintenance and regularly scheduled maintenance of all machinery and equipment in hotel. Ensures completion of all preventive maintenance including: lubrication, belts, refrigeration, changing of filters, etc. of electrical, plumbing, plastering, painting, locksmith and other mechanical.

17.Makes suggestions to the Director of Engineering for the Capital Expenditure Plan for all Repairs and Maintenance items. Assists in the completion of all capital $ & M items during the year and according to budget.

18.Stocks all work areas with the necessary supplies to perform the proper repair of guest rooms and/or assigned areas.

19.Performs any necessary preparatory or clean up requirements before beginning and after concluding repair and maintenance.

20.Ensures all work areas are secured from public access prior to repair when possible. Has rooms put out of order, reviews functions, etc., to ensure areas will not have guests in them.

21.Reports to the Director of Engineering any repair that was not completed and the reason for leaving it.

22.Keeps the Engineering shop clean and appropriately stocked on a daily basis. Shop is to be locked with the lights turned off any time when not in use.

23.Brings to the attention of the Director of Engineering supply needs, damaged equipment or any safety hazards in the work place.

24.Turns in all lost and found items to the Security office immediately.

25.Reports any problems, complaints or compliments to Hotel Management or the Director of Engineering immediately.

26.Will speak to all guests that you come into contact with in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner. Always will ascertain guest satisfaction when speaking with guests.

Duties and Supporting Responsibilities

1. Providing Five Diamond Service to all guests.

2. Will keep trays clean throughout dining room. Will keep all tabletops clean after guests have departed. Will reset tables as needed for turns. Will assist servers whenever and wherever needed.
3. Is knowledgeable in proper phone etiquette as per Five Diamond Standards.
4. Will have proper knowledge of set-up of shifts; buffet, prep full stock of station for turning of tables, knowledge of where all items are located.
5. Will have proper knowledge of all side work and how it is to be completed properly.
6. Will always be in proper uniform and follow uniform and grooming guidelines.
7. Will always use proper grammar and phrasing.
8. Will handle all guest related questions pertaining to hotel services.
9. Conduct oneself in such a manner as to reflect The Hermitage Hotel’s standards. Set an example for all staff to emulate.
10. Will always keep linen area stocked and orderly.

May be assigned other tasks or responsibilities as required or directed

Requirements
• A minimum of two years prior hospitality/restaurant experience in a luxury setting is required. Some higher education or vocational training specializing in the hospitality industry desired.
