Standing Together
I am the Founder of Southern Dixie Deaf Campout (SDDC), and I created and manage our page. I take that responsibility seriously because this page represents our entire SDDC community.
Recently, three people wanted the current admins removed and wanted to become admins themselves. I said no because admin positions should not be about personal control, ego, or “me, me, me.” They should be based on trust, responsibility, communication, experience, and the ability to work together as a team.
I personally chose two people to become admins because I believed they could work with me and help the page grow. They have done a great job, and our page continues to grow faster. I appreciate their hard work.
I have seen many times in Deaf camping groups where too much arguing, controlling behavior, personal conflicts, and power struggles eventually damage the group or cause it to shut down. I will not let that happen to Southern Dixie Deaf Campout.
I am standing my ground because I want SDDC to remain a positive, welcoming, and organized community. We need people who understand teamwork, respect different opinions, know how to manage responsibilities, and are willing to volunteer—not people who simply want to be in control.
- [ ] Our future is bigger than one page. We are looking ahead to hosting the National Deaf Campers in 2032, which will require many committees and volunteers working together—camping, registration, activities, food, communication, and many other responsibilities.
There will be opportunities for many people to contribute and lead. But leadership must be earned through trust, teamwork, skills, and responsibility.
As Founder of SDDC, I will continue protecting what we have built together and working toward a stronger future for everyone. We can disagree, but we must respect each other and work together.
