Some legends become icons. Some icons become part of the hearts of the people who call a city home.

Today, we mourn Dolly Parton.

At The Hermitage Hotel, we have had the privilege of being part of Nashville’s story for more than a century. And in 1981, when our doors reopened, Dolly was among the country music icons who walked through them.

She carried Tennessee with her into every room, every song and every corner of the world. Her voice gave us love, heartbreak, hope and home. Her generosity gave so much more.

Through her humanitarian work, her devotion to literacy and her lifelong belief in lifting others, Dolly created a legacy that reached far beyond the stage. She never forgot where she came from, and she spent a lifetime giving back.

Tonight, Nashville holds one of its brightest lights in memory.

Her songs will remain. Her generosity will endure. And the love she gave this city and the world will continue to echo for generations.

On August 18, 1920, Tennessee cast the deciding vote to ratify the 19th Amendment. The Hermitage Hotel was there, at the center of the action, as the nation watched history unfold.

History was made at The Hermitage Hotel, 106 years ago!

In 1920, all eyes were on Tennessee as the deciding state in ratifying the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. The Hermitage Hotel, just steps from the Capitol, became known as "The Third House"-a hub where the fate of women's suffrage was debated.

Yellow roses symbolized support, red roses opposed. And with one tie-breaking vote by a young state senator —urged on by a letter from his mother-the amendment passed on August 18, 1920.

A powerful reminder: every single vote matters.
