🚴 As we wrap up May and National Bike Month, I wanted to share a story from just last week that perfectly captures the spirit of bicycle travel.

Late one evening, I got a call from a cyclist sitting at Runza looking for a room after riding 125 miles in a single day.

That kind of mileage deserves more than just a place to sleep.

Gary rolled into Whispering Pines with his loaded bike, warmed up with a couple cups of hot tea and some homemade cookies, and after a hot shower and a good night's sleep, decided to stay a second night and turn Nebraska City into a rest day instead of just a stop along the route.

He took in a few local sights, relaxed in the hammock, soaked in the hot tub, and recharged before the next stretch of the journey.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed touring cyclists, weekend riders, and couples exploring southeast Nebraska on two wheels — and we love being part of their adventure for a night or two.

We recently shared a new blog about exploring in and around Nebraska City by bicycle and why Whispering Pines has become a welcoming stop for cyclists passing through.

It’s World Baking Day… which feels like the perfect excuse to share one of our breakfast favorites. 🍓

Our French Baked Pancake has become a guest favorite at Whispering Pines — light and custardy inside with crisp edges fresh from the oven.

This morning’s version was topped with strawberry-rhubarb compote and served alongside country ham.

Breakfast here is never just “breakfast.” It’s part of the experience.
