New Braunfels ISD is hosting its first-ever NB Film Festival at the historic Brauntex Theatre on May 3, 2026. The event will showcase student-created films from across the district, celebrating creativity from elementary, middle, and high school filmmakers.

Students can submit documentaries, short films, or animated projects of any length now through April 1. The festival will run from 1–4 pm and is a chance for students to see their work on the big screen in a professional theater setting.

A familiar storefront in Historic Gruene is getting ready to welcome shoppers once again with a brand-new chapter rooted in its past.

H.D. Gruene Mercantile is set to open on February 18 at 1607 Hunter Road, bringing new life to the iconic two-story brick building that dates back to 1904. The space was most recently home to the Gruene Antique Company, which closed after nearly four decades to make way for this new concept from the Molak Corporation, the longtime stewards of the property.

When the doors open, visitors can expect a thoughtfully curated mercantile featuring home décor, apparel, gifts, and a strong emphasis on Texas-made goods, a nod to the building’s original role as a true general store serving the Gruene community.
